Weather in the smart home: your house thinks ahead.

Your Home Assistant knows the current weather and the forecast for your location and adjusts the control to them. The lawn sprinkler stays off when rain is coming, the underfloor heating warms up before it gets cold, the awning retracts before the storm arrives. You do not have to think about it.

What weather and forecast can control

Knowing what is happening outside and what the next hours will bring, the house does not just react, it plans ahead.

  • WateringIf it has rained or rain is forecast, the lawn sprinkler stays off. In heat and drought it waters early in the morning, when little water evaporates.
  • Underfloor heatingA screed floor reacts slowly. When the forecast announces cold, the control warms up in time instead of reacting only once it is already cool inside. More under heating control.
  • Shutters and awningIn strong sun the shutters on the south side come down and keep the heat out. When gusts are forecast, the awning retracts in time.
  • Windows and rainIf a window is open and rain is on its way, you get a message on your phone before it rains in.
  • Lighting by daylightOutdoor and indoor lighting follow dusk and cloud cover instead of a fixed time. On dull days the lights come on earlier.
  • Using solar powerWhen plenty of sun is forecast for midday, appliances such as the heat pump or washing machine start when the solar panels produce power.
  • Frost and severe weatherWhen frost is coming, you get a reminder about the outdoor tap and plants in time. Severe weather warnings arrive as a message.
  • Everything at a glanceThe weather picture in the dashboard shows what is happening outside and how the house responds, without columns of numbers.

This is just a selection. Almost anything in your house that can be switched or measured can be linked to the weather and forecast: pond pump, pool heating, ventilation, garage door, roof windows or a reminder to bring in the garden furniture. Tell us what you have in mind.

How the control decides

We define the rules together with you, and you can adjust them at any time.

  1. Weather and forecastTemperature, rain, wind, sun and cloud cover for your location, now and for the next hours and days.
  2. State of the houseRoom temperatures, open windows, soil moisture, solar power output.
  3. Rule and actionFrom both, Home Assistant decides: heat, water, shade, switch on or let you know.

Where the data comes from

In your house
Home Assistant gets weather and forecast through a weather integration, for example with data from the German Weather Service for your location. The values are available to all automations, the rules run locally in your house, no cloud needed.
On this page
The sample picture uses the nearest German Weather Service station near Möthlow. Our server fetches the values every 10 minutes, your browser only loads a small file from us and never contacts a weather service.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the forecast is wrong?

The control keeps checking the actual values inside and outside. If the announced rain does not come, the sprinkler waters on its next run, and the heating adjusts to the real room temperature.

Can I change the rules myself?

Yes. You set thresholds such as temperature, amount of rain or wind speed in the dashboard. Bigger changes we discuss with you.

Is the weather picture a video?

No. The picture is made of photos of the same scene in five seasons and one night shot, the browser adds sky, light, rain, snow and fog on top. The photos of this sample scene were generated with AI, the house does not exist.

Does the picture move if I have reduced motion turned on?

No. If “reduce motion” is enabled on your device, the picture shows the current state without animation.

Should your house think ahead?

We set up Home Assistant and connect weather and forecast with heating, watering, shutters and your dashboard, in Berlin and Brandenburg.
